The "Caring Committee" was formed in 2014 to assist our members with hospitalizations.  If you know of a family experiencing a hospital stay, please feel free to contact us!  We can offer limited financial support, and can rally around the family if they'd like -- sharing their fundraisers, referrals to other sources of support.

Please keep in mind, if the hospital stay is a certain distance from your home, Katie Beckett may be able to reimburse you for hospital stays AND mileage.  Contact your Katie Beckett support person for further information.

Caring Committee
Phase 1

  • If a child with Down syndrome who is a member of our group gets ill or has an extended hospital stay, we will gift the family with up to $100 in gift cards for gas / food.
  • Gift cards to be either for food, gas, or a generic Visa
  • We have an additional amount usable for sending balloons or gift (blanket?) to the child (up to $25)
  • Minor surgeries (ear tubes, tonsils) will not be included
  • We will do our best to send to the hospital, or at least send balloons to the child’s room & sent cards to parents home address.

Phase 2
  • If there is recurring hospitalization or other serious injury / illness, we will assign a person to be the contact to the family (preferably based on proximity)
  • An email will go the group, allowing for donations (meals or money) to be sent for the family, to the contact person
  • The contact person will coordinate meal delivery (either on specific days, or will gather all the meals & deliver at once) and pick up dishes as needed.
  • The contact person will keep in touch with the family and let the group know if they have any other needs we can assist with

Other
  • If parent or sibling of a child w/DS in our group has a serious illness or injury, we will follow phase 2 and gather donations of meals & money for the family, on a voluntary basis.
